Packing For Your Child’s First Ski Trip – All You Need To Know

Are you planning your next ski getaway with some little additions in tow? Many families choose to start skiing together once their children have reached an age where they can enjoy the thrill of the slopes – but there are some things you need to think about first.

There’s no doubt that skiing can be fun for the whole family, but to get the most out of it you need to make sure you’ve gone prepared. If this is your first-time skiing with the kids, here’s everything you need to bring with you.

  1. Layers

Yes, you’re very likely to be spending the majority of your day out in the snow, but skiing is extremely physical, so it’s pretty likely that at some point the kids are going to get too warm.

Opting for thin base layers are a simple but effective way of keeping both you and the little ones comfortable for the whole day. But be sure to opt for some thicker cosier layers for on top so that they can soon warm up if they suddenly become too cold.

  1. Invest in the right outerwear

You wouldn’t send your little one out into the cold without a hat and gloves on at home, and the same goes for your child’s first ski trip. Opting for good quality outerwear that will hold up well against the wet elements will ensure everyone is both warm and dry for the whole trip.

It’s also worth getting some good waterproofs, especially as the kids are likely to be spending plenty of time on their knees and bottoms as they learn the ropes of the slopes. Trousers, salopettes or a cosy all-in-one are all suitable for this purpose.

  1. Non-ski clothing

As you plan your perfect family ski trip, you may be envisioning a whole week or two entirely dedicated to the snow, but it’s wise to prepare for more.

One of the best things about a ski holiday (and why they’re so popular with families) is that there is something for everyone, and plenty to do off of the pistes. So, bringing some nice clothing that you can dress your small ones up in when you’re not skiing is a definite must.

  1. Safety first

Last, but by no means least is specialist safety wear designed to keep your trip fun and safe. You’ll need a few essentials here, including:

  • Ski goggles
  • Helmet
  • Ski boots
  • Skis
  • Ski poles

Remember though, you don’t need to invest in all this kit at once. If you want to see how your first experience goes before shelling out on loads of specialist kit, you can opt to hire from our resort instead.
