Ski Slopes

Skiing Paradise

Sierra Nevada is the second highest mountain range in Western Europe after the Alps. The maximum height is reached at the peak of the impressive Mulhacen at 3,483 meters. In 1986 it was declared a Unesco Biosphere Reserve and in 1999, it became a National Park due to its biodiversity and natural beauty.

Sierra Nevada has 106 km of ski area, comprised of 124 pistes – 9 green, 41 blue, 50 red and 7 black – perfectly suitable for all skill levels.

The Sierra Nevada Ski station also has three areas dedicated for families and children, as well as a special snow park for tubing and sleighing.

Sierra Nevada’s enviable climate allows for a late season closing and even short-sleeve skiing on numerous occasions.

The Station is open daily from 9:00 am – 4:45 pm

Access:

Guests can ski out directly from the hotel via the Maribel piste down to the main station, accessible by the Sun Deck.

Complimentary and individual shuttles to the Pradollano, the most central point of the station, are available for guests of the hotel, daily from 8:00 am – midnight.

Please contact Reception for information regarding night and early morning skiing.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the Sierra Nevada ski season start and end?

The Sierra Nevada mountains are home to one of Europe’s sunniest ski resorts, providing optimal conditions for a long ski season each year. The Sierra Nevada resort is usually open for ski season from late November to early May, but this can extend until June if snowfall conditions are good.

At El Lodge, we normally open our doors for guest bookings between early December and late April, with some dates restricted during this period. You can use our online booking system to check which dates are available for booking a stay in Sierra Nevada with us throughout the ski season.

During the season, the Sierra Nevada Ski Station is open every day from 9am to 4.45pm, with most ski lifts running from 8.30am. Night skiing may be available on specific nights throughout the prime months, typically between 7pm and 9.30pm. The Sierra Nevada ski report shares the snow conditions and which ski routes and lifts are open each day.

El Lodge has prime access to the Ski Station from The Sun Deck, where guests can ski down the Maribel piste to reach the centre of the action. We also have free shuttles for hotel guests running to and from the central station all day from 8am – making ski season a breeze when you spend it with us at El Lodge

Can children ski in Sierra Nevada?

Skiing is fun for everybody, whether you’re visiting Sierra Nevada as individuals, a couple, friends, or family – and however young or old you may be. With more than 100km of ski slopes and over 120 pistes of varying difficulty levels, there’s something for everyone, including children.

Our Sierra Nevada piste map shows colour-coded routes ranging from very easy to very difficult, and you can always ask the friendly staff for information on which pistes would be best for your children’s skill levels. If your child is completely new to skiing, you may want to sign them up for a family ski lesson at our all-ages ski school.

If the main slopes seem too scary for the kids, there are dedicated family areas in the Sierra Nevada Ski Station for parents with young children. The snow park offers a range of alternative activities to skiing and snowboarding, including sleighing, tubing, and riding on snow bikes.

Of course, if your children are too young to ski, or simply don’t want to, you can leave them safely at El Lodge by speaking to our staff to arrange a babysitter. Otherwise, the unsupervised Kids Club provides a stimulating interior play space with various arts and crafts, games, and toys.

Can I learn to ski at El Lodge?

El Lodge and the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort welcome skiers of all abilities to enjoy our slopes. Even if you’ve never set foot on the snow before, you can prepare yourself for the pistes by learning the basics in a guided class with our partners at the Iliberis ski school.

We offer a range of classes in skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and more at varying levels – so you can learn to ski for the first time from an introductory class, or brush up on your skills by picking up some new skiing tricks. Take part in a group session or bring a guide to the slopes with you for one-on-one training tips – the choice is yours.

Depending on the amount of guidance you need, you could book a short one-hour session, a few hours in the morning or afternoon, or even a full day session. All ski guides and classes are family-friendly, and our multi-lingual ski teachers make the sport as accessible as possible.

If you’re new to the sport and don’t have your own equipment, or weren’t able to bring yours with you for any reason, you can also benefit from prêt-à-porter equipment hire at El Lodge. Our friendly staff will help to kit you out in everything you’ll need for your skiing class or a day on the slopes.

Our ski lesson and ski hire rates vary according to junior, regular, top line, or premium requirements. Extra services are also available for an added cost, such as boot fitting, waxing and edging, and total tuning.

Do you offer unique snow experiences?

Staying at El Lodge is already a unique experience in itself, thanks to its exclusivity and classic ski lodge charm. With the stunning views, ideal skiing climate, and the luxurious spa services and gourmet dining options we have onsite, your stay with us is guaranteed to be special.

However, if you’re looking for something a little extra – a bonus adventure to take your Sierra Nevada ski trip to the ultimate level – then you’re in luck. We do offer exclusive snow experience packages amongst our range of day trip packages in Granada, all designed to elevate your trip with truly unforgettable leisure activities.

For example, guests over 18 years old can see what it’s like for the engineers who groom the ski slopes on Snowcats each day. A valid driving licence is required to operate the Snowcat, but you’ll have the opportunity to steer it through the snow for a 3-hour late-night session.

If driving a Snowcat isn’t on your wish list, how about stargazing in the Sierra Nevada mountains? We provide the astronomy guides and telescopes, while the landscape provides a breathtaking skyline with little light pollution – all you have to do is observe the natural beauty of the night sky.
